Facelift Q & A

What is a facelift?

A facelift is a cosmetic surgical procedure designed to lift the face to decrease common signs of aging in the face and neck. It can improve the appearance of several aesthetic issues, including:

  • Double chin
  • Sagging caused by fallen or displaced fat
  • The presence of jowls
  • Sagging throughout the middle of your face
  • Creasing from your nose down to the corners of your mouth
  • Creasing under your lower eyelids

A facelift won't alter your fundamental appearance, nor will it keep your face from aging in the future.

How does a facelift work?

First, you’re put under anesthesia, which Dr. Levine may administer intravenously or through general anesthesia.

Next, he makes the incision. In a traditional facelift, this starts at the temples in the hairline and goes around the ear and ends at the lower scalp. The fat is re-sculpted, or your facial muscles are lifted, and excess skin removed.

During a limited incision facelift, the incisions are shorter and are typically hidden in your hairline or natural creases.

As you heal, your results will show gradually. The swelling and bruising will go down soon after the procedure, and you leave with a revitalized, more youthful appearance.

Am I a good candidate for a facelift?

If you’re in good overall health, don’t smoke, and have realistic expectations for the outcome of the procedure, you may be an ideal candidate for a facelift. You should discuss your goals and concerns with Dr. Levine to ensure a safe procedure and positive outcome.

What happens after a facelift?

Dr. Levine typically recommends that you supplement your facelift procedure with one or more of the following add-on services:

Botox

Injections that temporarily paralyze facial muscles responsible for wrinkles, Botox treatment helps create a smoother, more youthful appearance.

Microdermabrasion

Dr. Levine gently lifts away your flawed outer skin with a wand-like device, revealing younger-looking, smoother skin.

Anti-aging skincare

Dr. Levine can recommend a variety of anti-aging skincare products to help you stave off some effects of aging like fine lines and wrinkles.

Chemical peels

Dr. Levine applies a chemical solution to your face to treat damage like sun spots, fine wrinkles, and blemishes.

The add-on services that Dr. Levine recommends depend on a variety of factors, including your overall health, your skin type, and your body’s response to your facelift surgery.
