Breast Lift Q & A

What is a breast lift?

A breast lift is a surgical procedure that lifts your breasts by removing loose skin and firming up your breast tissue. This procedure can reshape your breasts making them perkier and more youthful. A breast lift doesn’t affect the size of your breasts, just the shape.

How does a breast lift procedure work?

When you visit Dr. Levine for a breast lift, a trained anesthesiologist administers anesthesia, so you don’t feel any discomfort during the procedure.

Next, Dr. Levine makes incisions around your breasts. The specific type of incision depends on the size and shape of your breasts, the extent of sagging and loose skin, and your skin elasticity.

Once he has made the incisions, Dr. Levine reshapes your breast tissue for added firmness. He then repositions your nipples and gets rid of loose skin to make up for any lost elasticity.

Finally, he tightens your excess skin by closing up the incisions with skin glue. You will see results immediately. The incision lines will cause some scarring, but this will fade over time.

What is the recovery from a breast lift like?

After your breast lift procedure, Dr. Levine will dress the incision with bandages to help your incision heal. You’ll need to wear bandages for some time to help tone down swelling while your breasts heal.

Dr. Levine will discuss how to care for your breasts in the weeks following your surgery. That might include using prescribed medication to aid in the healing process and reduce the chance of infection.

He will also offer guidance on how to care for the incision site, and he will develop a schedule of follow-up visits to monitor your progress and overall health after surgery.

Is a breast lift safe?

As with any procedure, there are risks involved with a breast lift, including:

  • Anesthesia complications
  • Infection
  • Temporary or permanent altered nipple or breast sensation
  • Asymmetrical breasts
  • Potential revisional surgery

Before making your decision to undergo a breast lift, Dr. Levine will discuss the procedure and its risks with you. This consultation is a great time to address your concerns and learn what the realistic expectations are for the breast lift procedure.
